Whitby Abbey, a Benedictine abbey sited on Whitby's East Cliff in North Yorkshire on the north-east coast of England.Originally founded in 657 AD by the Anglo-Saxon King of Northumbria, Oswy, it fell to the Vikings in 876. William de Percy ordered that the abbey be refounded in 1078 by Regenfrith a soldier monk. (08/01/1993)
